What Is an IOP, and Who Is It For?

An intensive outpatient program (IOP) provides structured mental health or substance use treatment without requiring you to live at a facility. You attend sessions several hours per day, multiple days per week, and go home at the end of each session.

In Florida, IOPs are regulated by the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and must meet specific licensing requirements. Most programs last 6 to 12 weeks and include:

  • Individual and group therapy sessions
  • Evidence-based treatment (CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing)
  • Psychiatric evaluation and medication management
  • Family involvement and support education
  • Relapse prevention and aftercare planning
